Well now... Hello everyone! This is the first time I ever posted a "Blog" and I really don't know what it's all about. I sell boats and properties in Luperon in the Dominican Republic. Anyone out there ever heard of Luperon? At http://sampasystems.com you can see what I do to put a little food on the table! Great spot this Luperon Bay - tremendous location for boaters. One of the best hurricane holes in the whole of the Caribbean. Talk to me, someone!

Hey... This is great! This is the first response I received for which I thank you because I was not sure if it even worked! Anyway, for sure I will pass on your regards to Captain Steve - I pass him everyday on the way to the office. And thanks for the kind words regarding my site - I work hard at it but I do enjoy it. Best regards from Gil.

Gil, I'm surprised that no one has yet responded to your blog. Luperon is certainly an interesting place, especially for sailors as it has warm weather in the winter and yet is comparatively safe from hurricanes in the summer and fall.

Last time I was there, Luperon was very inexpensive, though it didn't have a lot in the way of services that a sailor would need--either passing through, or choosing Luperon for a home-port away from home-port. While I can find lots of information about big tourist projects for Luperon, I don't find any information on the current sailboat cruising situation. Perhaps a way to attract interest in your blog would be to give updates for sailors who might consider Luperon as a port of call, or for a longer stay. Let me ask a few questions.

What are the current services at Luperon? is it still a DR port-of-entry? how long may one anchor in the bay? and are there moorings that one can tie to instead of anchoring? are there marinas with floats available? are there any haul-out or emergency repair facilities? are there still people (locals or sailors in residence) who can repair engines, do fiberglass work, do canvas work?

I understand that there is now a very well-regarded yacht brokerage operating out of Luperon; how many sailboats have been bought and sold there, and is Luperon now a good place to either look for a sailboat to buy or to take one to put up for sale?

Hope this helps to get your blog moving.

Looks like I put my comment in the wrong place, so I'm posting it here as well.

Good morning "Sailcomfort" and thanks for the Blog! It has been so long since I have been "Blogged" that I forgot to check the blog spot. Like you, I can not imagine why there has been almost no response because Luperon is most definitely a great spot to visit and live. Yes, there is a yacht brokerage in Luperon now. That is me, actually, at http://sampasystems.com or http://valueyachts.info and I am called Luperon Boat and Property Sales. Please visit my site and give an honest opinion about what you see. I try to improve my web site based on the observations of the users. I have sold a number of boats here and what a great spot to call "Home Port" for a boater! This is one of the best "Hurricane Holes" that you would ever find anywhere. Nice quiet and "laid back" atmosphere here in Luperon. A lot of boaters cruise the islands and then return to this town for the hurricane season. We have quite a large "gringo" community here and still growing. You can anchor in the bay for as long as you want to. I have been anchored here for more than eight years and the fees are very reasonable. Up to thirty-five feet the cost is $10 US per month and $15 US per month for anything larger. No haulout facilities as yet but lots of professional "gringos" here that do any kind of boat repairs. Also some very good local services and reasonable rates. Now that you got the ball rolling I will try to watch my "Blog Spot" more closely and try to respond to all questions from all bloggers! And yes, bring your boat for sale - I am short of boats right now!
